EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE PROGRESS
Implementation Areas
ACCESS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER
We empower communities with sustainable water solutions, we harness innovation like solar-powered wells and gravity-fed systems, strengthen water management systems, promote watershed stewardship, and train entrepreneurs to ensure lasting access to safe water and thriving livelihoods
SANITATION AND HYGIENE
Uganda's rural communities face critical sanitation challenges, with only 4 in 10 households using improved toilet facilities and 7 in 10 lacking functional handwashing facilities, as reported by the 2021 UBOS survey. Alarmingly, over 8 million people in Uganda still practice open defecation, contributing to health and environmental risks. UNICEF's 2023/24 WASH Budget Brief highlights that sanitation and hygiene receive only 1.5% of the WASH sector budget, further exacerbating these dire conditions.
RSI drives transformative sanitation solutions through a market-based approach, shaping sanitation businesses and fostering behavior change. We invest in innovation and research to develop tailored technologies and products for Uganda’s unique needs, partner with leading companies to deliver accessible, high-quality sanitation products, and train teachers and school health clubs on proper water, sanitation, and hygiene practices, including menstrual hygiene management
EDUCATION
We collaborate with local authorities to align educational goals, enhance schools/institutions’ capacity through training, support partnerships with CBOs and Village Education Teams, promote economic empowerment and livelihoods, and advance digital inclusion to ensure equitable, quality education for all
